Weapons technical intelligence gathers intelligence on weapon capabilities, strengths, and weaknesses from the technical and forensic collection and exploitation of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), associated components, and other improvised or asymmetric weapon systems. WTI enables organizations to develop effective countermeasures, identify trends and networks, and predict future weapon capability enhancements.
A-T Solutions weapons technical intelligence (WTI) course was developed specifically for counter-IED (C-IED) enablers (Joint Service Explosive Ordnance Disposal [EOD], exploitation personnel, site exploitation teams, and WIT teams), the Intelligence Community (IC), and battle staffs at all levels of command.
The course is designed to train enablers to integrate and enable operations, to train the battle staffs to effectively integrate their enablers, and to train the IC to embrace WTI and its outputs as inputs to the intelligence process.
Over a 32-hour span, instruction builds on itself, with broad theories leading to specific concepts. The modules begin with basic Attack the Network (AtN) theory and counter-insurgency (COIN) principles. Increasingly technical modules follow, explaining exploitation and how units can apply exploitation results to the intelligence process. Instruction uses real-world vignettes and hands-on training using Google Earth to template the threat. Students are able to visualize threats by mapping exploitation results using C-IED tools and databases. The culminating exercises require students to build products using real-world data from their future area of operations.
