Formulating the appropriate threat assessment is essential to bomb squads when responding to an improvised explosive device (IED) incident. Assessing the potential threat from an incident control point prior to taking action is fundamental to accurately advising incident personnel and public on safety concerns. Threat assessments allow for the development of a response plan that is both effective and efficient. A-T Solutions Advance Threat Assessment course starts with theory about threat assessment techniques and a description of devices currently being deployed worldwide by various terrorist organizations. For the remainder of the week-long course students respond to diverse scenarios that incorporate those real-world threat devices in a U.S. environment. The course culminates with a full day on a range where students practice responding to vehicle-borne IEDs (VBIEDs). The instructor leads a complete debrief at the conclusion of each task in the course.
Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Determine the correct threat assessment
- Demonstrate the various techniques used to collect and formulate the appropriate threat assessment
- Improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of an improvised explosive device disposal (IEDD) team when responding to an IED/explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) incident
- Explain the reasons why forensic evidence must be identified and preserved during all IEDD incidents
